Abbey Road Studios Mode: Iconic Sound For Every Adventure
Discover the all-new in-car audio experience created by Bowers & Wilkins and Abbey Road.

Abbey Road is the home of music making, and for over 40 years, Bowers & Wilkins loudspeakers have been instrumental in creating countless world-class albums and blockbuster movie scores within its hallowed walls. Our longstanding partnership with Abbey Road has seen our 800 Series, in its many evolutions from 1980s original model through the Matrix 801 and onto the ground-breaking 800 Series Diamond D4, used daily by revered artists, engineers, and creators to record, mix and master some of the greatest music of all time. Now, we embark on a new venture with Abbey Road that takes our iconic partnership to the next level.
Studio sound on the drive
While Bowers & Wilkins collaborates with many facets of the music world, we’re always delighted to work with our automotive partners to bring unforgettable, precision audio to the driving experience. Our passion for great sound on the road and our involvement with Abbey Road has culminated in a new feat of audio excellence: creating an utterly immersive in-car listening experience directly influenced by the famous London-based studios. We proudly present Abbey Road Studios Mode.

Abbey Road Studios Mode
Bringing iconic studio sound to the drive, Abbey Road Studios Mode is an all-new in-car audio experience created by Bowers & Wilkins and Abbey Road. The new integrated sound mode enables listeners to replicate the world-famous recording studio's beautiful sound, spaces and equipment during the drive.
The mode can be enjoyed by using the included presets: Intimate, for the essential Abbey Road sound; Energised, which adds excitement to any music; Expansive, for truly enveloping audio reproduction; and Open, which replicates an open acoustic space. Each preset within its interface is curated and fully optimised by the world-class engineers at Abbey Road. The result is unforgettable audio reproduction certified by those who live and breathe it.
For those seeking to adjust their acoustic environment in a more detailed way, users have a wealth of choices to tailor their audio experience with Producer Mode. The Vintage to Modern axis moves from raw, uncompressed sound with beautiful tonal character, to a crisp, polished sonic palette for unrivalled immersion. For those who want to blend the environments of the Live Room with the Control Room, Producer Mode lets users create their own Abbey Road signature sound by moving between the spaces. Be it grand and open or controlled and refined, finding the perfect balance is made effortless by the on-screen display, which enables listeners to slide between settings.

Engineering acoustic excellence
To achieve the unique acoustic characteristics of Abbey Road and bring them to the in-car experience, there were three things we deemed integral to the process. The spaces, the equipment and the people – all of which feature personalities of their own that define the sound of the music.
Measurements were taken of the real-world studio environments, the tonality of the pioneering equipment was studied and replicated, and the studio’s engineers – the ears behind the mixing and mastering process – helped instil their techniques and expertise into the sound modes, ensuring it met their exacting standards.
This ultimate combination of acoustically treated spaces, innovative equipment and years of experience – coupled with sound by Bowers & Wilkins, the audio brand trusted and used in the iconic studios – integrates the sonic DNA of Abbey Road into the confines of a car for the first time ever.
Creative listening for every passenger
This new mode, which will go live for the first time in the Volvo EX90 in the spring of 2025, is for anyone and everyone passionate about great-sounding music who wants to experience it creatively without limits. No matter where listeners are seated in the vehicle, 25 high-performance Bowers & Wilkins speakers offer an immersive 3D surround sound experience for every passenger, bringing True Sound – and the sound of Abbey Road – to every adventure.
With more musical enjoyment taking place in cars on the road than ever before, now is the perfect time to elevate these listening experiences through the passion and craftsmanship of the minds behind the music.

A celebration of sound
To celebrate the launch of Abbey Road Studios Mode, Bowers & Wilkins and Abbey Road hosted an exclusive interactive event at Abbey Road alongside Mercury Prize Award-winning jazz quintet Ezra Collective.
This experiential event invited attendees to immerse themselves in the spaces that inspired the new technology, learn about its development process, and be some of the first to experience the Abbey Road Studios Mode in the Volvo EX90. During the event, attendees journeyed through Abbey Road’s rich musical heritage, explored the 44-year partnership between Bowers & Wilkins and Abbey Road, and enjoyed an exclusive listening session in the EX90.
The event also featured two panel discussions: an afternoon session focused on the technical development of the mode, and an evening discussion led by BBC Radio 6 DJ Jamz Supernova, exploring the journey from studio sound to the road. The day concluded with a live performance by Ezra Collective in Studio Two, where their latest album was recorded, offering an intimate connection to the space that inspired the Abbey Road Studios Mode.
