We’re thrilled to announce the return of our collaborative video series with Record Store Day UK and Classic Album Sundays.

We’re thrilled to announce the return of Behind The Counter, our popular collaborative video series with Record Store Day UK and Classic Album Sundays.

Now in its sixth season, and with over 70 record stores visited to date, Behind The Counter continues to celebrate the unique culture, heritage and community of independent record stores across the UK. This series takes you behind the scenes of these much-loved shops, introducing the passionate owners and staff and unveiling the magic of working in their record stores.

Through their stories, we’ll explore the joys of discovering new music, the role these record stores play in their local communities, and the enduring appeal of vinyl in an ever-evolving music landscape.

From Sound Records in the Isle of Man to Thirteen Records in Dundee – and many gems in between – this season is packed with incredible shops and inspiring stories. Stay tuned for a new episode every week as we count down to Record Store Day, which takes place on April 12th and is proudly supported by Bowers & Wilkins.

Be sure to check out Bowers & Wilkins social channels as a new episode will drop every Tuesday morning in the lead up to Record Store Day on 12th April.

Sound Records, Isle of Man

After Jack finished university and spent some time travelling, he returned to his home on the Isle of Man and realised he needed somewhere to buy records from. Yet his passion for vinyl wasn’t being catered for on the island. Instead of buying online, he opened a shop to serve the community. Now, Jack heads up Sound Records, the Isle of Man’s only independent record shop, working alongside Ed. They both bring their unique expertise to the store: Jack is the business brains and drive behind the operation, while Ed provides an encyclopaedic knowledge of music. One of Jack’s favourite things about running a record shop is meeting other music lovers from the island and discussing new music with them.

Dash the Henge, London

Nestled in the heart of Camberwell, South London, Dash the Henge proudly occupies the site of the cherished Rat Records – the go-to record shop for Tim and Chris during their vinyl-searching days. When the duo and a few other like-minded music lovers learned that Rat Records was closing its doors, they joined forces to establish Dash the Henge, ensuring that another record shop would fill the gap. With a shared love for live music, Tim and Chris use Dash the Henge as more than just a place to sell records; it’s a venue to showcase bands and performers, bringing the joy of live music to the local community.

Spinning Around Records, Telford

Emma started collecting records in 2015, a hobby that resulted in her helping out at her local record store during essential vinyl-loving events such as Record Store Day. It’s this introduction to the vinyl community that inspired her to take the plunge and open a record shop of her own. Spinning Around Records is Emma’s pride and joy – a pop-centric vinyl haven for fans of Kylie Minogue, Taylor Swift, Chappell Roan, Charli XCX, and many more. With a new generation of music fans choosing to collect physical records rather than only streaming them, Emma’s excited to be a driving force behind the vinyl revival and its rapidly expanding fanbase.

Thirteen Records, Dundee

Lee runs Thirteen Records, an independent music shop which caters to Dundee’s thriving music scene. Following the closure of the local legendary record store Groucho’s, where Lee and many of his current colleagues used to work, he knew it was now or never if he was going to chase his dream of opening a record shop. One of the things he loves about working in a record shop is the thrill of never knowing what’s going to arrive at the shop each day – even though he’s ordered it! It could be a brand-new single from an obscure band or a decade-old album he’s never seen in the flesh before.
